Based off of of the Classic 312 API preamp the Tone Beast offers a number of switching options for coloring the audio path which include:
Select-able opamps, transformers and capacitor paths.
With the stock design we found the color changing options in the discrete preamp to be too subtle.
In addition the audio path lacks punch, has high distortion and a smeared top end with a pushed midrange and nasally tone.
We have addressed these shortfalls with a number of upgrades.
After modifications these are a preamp that simply has all of the tonal quality you are looking for with a very upfront tone with higher headroom, lower white noise and cleaner, clearer audio.
The low end and dynamic range come to life with loads of analog mojo and musicality.
So The modifications:
We do a complete circuit upgrade using premium parts for lower noise and higher headroom as well as lower distortion throughout the circuit.
New Opamps are installed in both locations using a top tier Gar2520 opamp and a Je991 (built with handmatched transistors for lower noise and higher headroom) that really smooths out the midrange and brings the audio to the front.
All Audio caps are swapped out for better performance using Panasonic Parts for better musicality and lower noise in the capacitor path switching option.
Bypassing is performed throughout for lower noise and clearer audio.
Power supply modifications are also performed for the lowest possible noise figures in the overall design and better current delivery.
