These preamps pack a good price to performance ratio but with the modifications they simply sound excellent with better bandwidth, higher headroom and sound less muddy to boot.

The character smooths out and the noise floor is lowered to a point where the audio is just right and a lot closer to the original Neve Design minus the Carnhill transforms (ask us about this upgrade as well:)

Note We do not change out the original transformers since we find them to sound very warm with good bandwidth and akin to a Sowter. 

People often ask why we dont do the transformer upgrade first.

We find that the circuit takes the performance of these units around 5 times farther than the transformer upgrade to Carnhill.

The transformer upgrade is more of a character enhancement for those that want the total package and so we steer people toward the circuit upgrade first to get the best of their hard earned dollars.

What we do to these little boxes is essentially gut the insides.

We pull all of the transistors out and replace them with high HFE transistors for better bandwidth and lower noise to more closely resemble the original Neve design.

We then pull all of the caps out the unit and replace them with long life, audio grade Panasonic capacitors for even lower noise and better musicality.

The power supply is then upgraded for longer life, lower noise and better filtration of noise as the icing on the cake.

We walk away with a wonderful sounding preamp with modifications that we receive nothing but positive feedback about:)

The N73PRE is a preamp and DI that is based on one of the most revered console preamps of all time in a 500 series form factor. In addition to its classic British sound, the N73PRE offers tone- enhancing features such as an impedance switch and an “air” switch. The impedance switch can be set to either 300 ohms or 1200 ohms, allowing you to bring your microphones to their full potential, while the “air” feature adds a bit of shimmering top end. Additionally, the DI input on the front panel can be switched to either active or passive for even more tone-shaping when you are recording direct. Pair the N73PRE with the N73EQ for the full British tone experience in your 500 series rack.
