This is a brand new unit opened for modifications and sounds excellent.

The Alctron is another Neve reproduction out of China that actually surprised us as to how good it sounded stock.

Most of these designs come from one of two factories and so have a lot of the same limitations and character.

We found this design when stock to sound warm and full but with higher noise than we like and not as much detail just like with the Chameleon labs and Golden Age pres, however we liked the transformer tone with the design.

That said, we set out to modify the entire audio circuit and power supply with some excellent ear pleasing results.

After the modifications they simply sound incredible with better bandwidth, higher headroom, lower distortion, less harsh and sound less muddy to boot when boosting with the EQ or just using the preamp. .

The character smoothes out and the noise floor is lowered to a point where the audio is just right and a lot closer to the original Neve Design.

What we do to these little boxes is essentially gut the insides and do the following.

We pull all of the transistors out and replace them with high HFE transistors for better bandwidth and lower noise to more closely resemble the original Neve design.

We then pull all of the caps out the unit and replace them with long life, audio grade Panasonic capacitors for even lower noise and better musicality.

The internal power supply is then gutted and modified for better current delivery and much lower noise floor.

We walk away with a wonderful sounding preamp with modifications that we receive nothing but positive feedback about:)
